Welcome to Cholsey Meadows Fairmile building

Welcome to the Cholsey Meadows Management Company (CMMC) website. You can find information here to help us all know how to keep our homes safe and secure for our families, children and visitors.

The CMMC Board has a core remit to manage the common areas of Cholsey Meadows and ensure the maintenance, repair and renewal of all these areas. This means that we focus on Landscaping and Maintenance, Finance and Budget Management, Communications and Engagement, Governance and Compliance and Digital Infrastructure.

Cholsey Meadows is a wonderful woodland and riverside site with a mixture of Victorian grandeur and modern housing, set in 100 acres of managed landscape. Lying in astoundingly beautiful grounds, the Grade II listed Victorian Fairmile Hospital was built as a lunatic asylum in the 1860s.  In those days, the Victorians built hospitals for the mentally ill all over the country and many, like the Fairmile, have been converted into apartments. The Fairmile Hospital was a self-sufficient community, with vast areas under the building for heating and maintenance, large allotments and woodland surroundings. The estate has over 600 trees, 150 of which are specimen trees.

We have 375 homes, set in small streets, around the cricket pitch, near the Chapel and down Ferry Lane. There is a picture and description of the old ferry outside the Great Hall.

Allotments

The allotments at the bottom of Cholsey Meadows are managed by the Parish Council so please contact them if you’d like to know more about having an allotment yourself.  It is an amazing area to see with all its diversity, and avid gardeners will find all facilities you need, or you may just want somewhere to sit on sunny days.

The Chapel at Cholsey Meadows

The Chapel

The Chapel is currently in the hands of Homes England, who are trying to find tenants for the lease of the building. This is proving to be a challenge because it is subject to certain restrictions. If you would like to make an enquiry, or find out more, please contact Homes England.

The-Great-Hall

The Great Hall

We have a magnificent area for entertainment and communal activities – The Great Hall. In former days when the Fairmile Building was a hospital, The Great Hall was a vibrant hub of activities for patients and staff and today we also encourage its use for as many activities as possible.  Classes are run from here, concerts and private functions and all kinds of communal activities, which make full use of the stage, sprung wooden floor, kitchens, and the office where the administration of parts of the estate are situated. To find out more about classes and other activities, please click here.
