Waste management is our joint responsibility. We live in a community where residents share many areas, so this means that we are all responsible for ensuring we use these areas with respect. This page helps to clarify agreements regarding the efficient and effective removal of waste from our private development.
In many of the bin collection areas, individual residents demonstrate community spirit by flattening cardboard boxes and sweeping up waste that hasn’t made it into a bin. They also organise bins to make them easier for residents to access and even take large items to the recycling centre with their own recycling. If everyone takes responsibility for their own household waste, these kind and thoughtful residents could focus on only their own rubbish.
No one wants to encourage rodents. However, we have witnessed people leaving large items, dropping food waste on the floor, not putting their bags in bins and not flattening cardboard boxes. Not only does this attract rodents, but it means the CMMC has to call specialist services in to manage the infestations. This extra cost comes out of all of our service charges. We’re sure you would rather have your money spent on improving the development than paying to resolve some one else’s sloppiness.
Things to know when disposing of your household waste:
- Collection Areas – each has a purpose and residents have allocated locations
- Type of waste being collected each week – what is acceptable for recycling, food, garden, general, textile, small electricals etc
- Cleaning – our service charge pays for bin stores to be disinfected every quarter
- Individual bins and community bins – some collection areas have a combination
- Issues with waste – take large items to the recycling centre or arrange for it to be collected; flatten cardboard; put food in your food bin; all recycling should be loose in your green bin or in see through plastic bags.
- Special items – e.g. Christmas Tree disposal – look out for messages
- Report any issues with waste – e.g. non-collection, rodents spotted etc. to CMMC

At a Glance Best Practice
- Put your waste in the correct bin (if you’re not sure what goes in which bin click here)
- If at all possible, you must be able to close the lid on your bin
- Store individual bins on your own property except on collection days
- Put additional recycling in a clear plastic bag next to your green bin
- On recycle collection days you can put out old textiles in a carrier bag next to your green bin
- On general waste collection days you can put out small electrical items in a carrier bag next to your grey bin
- Garden waste (brown bins) should only contain gardening waste
- Flatten all cardboard boxes and ensure they fit inside a recycle bin or are in a clear plastic bag next to your recycle bin
- Keep the floor of the bin collection areas clear of any waste or bags of waste – all waste goes in the appropriate bin
- Put your waste in your own bin!
